30 March 1894 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 30th [March 1894]. Went to studio. At 12 Nety & her boy George came to fetch me & we went to Clara Montalba’s studio to see the picture she is just finishing for Exhibition in this year’s New Gallery. She calls it St Marks. It is the procession on St Marks day going into the church door & seen thro’ the arch of the clock tower. Very fine in colour & a splendid effect. We walked home to lunch. Got a letter from the Admiralty offering us the use of the steam launch this afternoon. We gladly accepted & we were to start at 3– When a short time before came a note from Mme Noce saying there had been an accident on the Lido & the Adl had taken the steam launch to go off & see abt it. So we rowed in gondola & sandolo to the Quattro Fontane on the Lido & walked on the shore, picked up shells & had tea– Got home after 6. Practised guitar till dinner. Girls went out in eveng. Francie Guest & Miss Green arrived from Florence at 11 to stay with us. We gave them supper & then all went to bed.
