28 April 1894 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Saturday. 28th [April 1894]. I was better but still shaky & stayed in bed most of the morning. A large party came to lunch from No 17. I spent the morning sewing lace on pocket handkerchiefs for the Sale assisted by Olwen Ponsonby. At 2.30 we all went off to No 17 Cavendish Square. I had to sit down most of the afternoon– At first very few people came—but later the rooms filled & we did a brisker trade. At our stall we sold all the small birds & raffled the pug puppy which Henry won but we gave it to Lady Morris who had expressed a desire to possess it. Blanche Lady Lindsay came to the Sale on purpose to see me & we sat together a long time & went to the drawing room in 1st floor & sat together quietly to listen to the mandoline band. The whole thing was over at about 5 oclock & we returned home & ordered the carriage and Augusta Gregory, Nela Du Cane & I took a drive. We took Lady Evelyn Bertie home to her mother in Sloane St where they have taken a house & took a turn in the Park & then came home to dinner. Mama, Blanche dined with us– They think they have taken £400 at the Sale. Mama sat with Henry in the evening for a little while & then Blanche they all went home early & we were all tired.
