8 May 1894 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Tuesday. 8th May [1894]. Up at 7.30. Wrote a letter for Henry. Practised guitar. Stella & Mrs Dyer who arrived in London last night came to see us this morng at 11.30 & went up & sat some time with Henry. After luncheon Lord Selborne came to see Henry. Maria came to lunch & I took her round to Mr Herring to see what progress her weak knee had made. He thought it better. Kate & Nela drove out in our carriage. Blanche called for me & took me out with her, we went to Stafford House to an Exhibition of English silks. Princess Mary of Teck was there– We stayed some time. Some of the silks were very fine but not so good as French ones. From there we went to Rigals to order gowns & then home. Blanche chose a chiné silk with a shot of red & green in a white ground & red flowers. I took a white shot with grey to be trimmed with fine black lace. Found Henry had had a visit from Cornelia & Francie Guest who had returned from abroad yesterday. Sat with Henry till dinner. Mama dined with us. Henry had a pretty comfortable day—only a little pain towards evening.
