Thursday. 10th May [1894]. I breakfasted in bed. Kate left by 10.15 train for Peterboro’ to attend a festival to dedicate the new organ in the cathedral & then she returns home to Lutterworth. I got up at 10.30 & wrote some letters for Henry. Mrs Willy Hanson came to call & enquire after Henry. At 12 Blanche called for me & we went to Mme Rigal’s to try on our new dresses. Blanche went on to Mr Asquith & Miss Margot Tennants wedding at 20 Gros: Sqr. I came straight home to lunch– Henry got up at 12. After luncheon Nela & I sat with him & at 3 I had a visit from Lady Waldegrave & took her to a house in this street in our carriage. It was a queer day at intervals rain came pelting down when least expected. I left Lady W to pay her [call] & I went to Wimborne House to see my brother Ivor who was laid up with a cold. I sat chatting with him for an hour & then came home. I found Mr Rate sitting with Henry & afterwards Edward Ponsonby came. He & B go tomorrow to Scotland on the Whitsun holiday. Henry dined at 7.30 & then at 8 Nurse, Nela & I dined & we two sat with Henry till bed time. Alice Murray went to the Queen’s drawing room today & presented Daisy Du Cane & they came & showed Henry their dresses on their way back to 25 Pk Crescent. Miss Fraser came to tea with me. Ola arrived home from Venice bringing my maid Agnes so now our household is once more reassembled. We heard that our good friend Mr Woods RA is very ill at the Langham Hotel with erysipelas & we sent Roberts the butler to see about him. He has 2 nurses but is now getting better. | |
