11 May 1894 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Friday. 11th May [1894]. It was a fine morning but came on to rain heavily in the afternoon. Nurse went to Carters & ordered a couch for Henry which came by the time he got up but which he did not like as it was too springs & unwieldy so I decided to go in search of another one. So Nela & I drove to Leveroni in Oxford St & there saw an Ilkley couch half the price & better in every way & arranged to have it if Mr Herring approved. It rained so hard that we did not remain out long. Mr Burton & Lady Gregory came to dine & at the last moment Connie Eliot & her girl Bee came & offered themselves. Maria came just before dinner & offered to send Richard to dine but he did not turn up. Mr Burton sat with Henry after dinner.
