21 May 1894 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Monday. 21st May [1894]. Still very cold. Breakfasted in bed. Wrote for Henry. Practised guitar. Lunched at 1. Ola lunched with us. Nela & I & Daisy & Julie drove out at 3 & went to the Concert of Princes Hall given in aid of the orphanage for daughters of missionaries. It was very long & many distinguished artists gave their services. Mme Albain sang & Miss Clara Butt. The latter has a splendid contralto voice. The Meister singers (4 of them) sang glees, Mr Arthur Roberts gave a piece of mimicry. Miss Olga Nethersole recited. A celebrated American whistled– Miss Letty Lind was to have danced but did not appear. We went to the concert at 3.30 & were not home till 6. Had some tea—then went to see the Dyers & on to 17 Cav. Sqr. Blanche was out & I found her sitting with Henry on my return home. In Harley St I met our old chaplain Mr Jameson & had a talk with him on the Browning misfortunes & he promised to see if he could help to mend matters. Augusta, Blanche, Edward & Mama dined with us & Edward sat with Henry in the eveng. Blanche & I ran round to Cav. Sqr after to dinner in search of work she wanted to show me but it could not be found. Nela dined at Park Crescent.
