22 May 1894 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Tuesday. 22nd May [1894]. I woke with a headache & remained in bed for breakfast & got up abt 11 & went to lie down on the sofa in the morning room. Then came on a most tremendous shivering shaking fit which lasted an hour. Mr Herring came to see Henry & nurse got him to come to me & he ordered me back to bed so I went to bed in the spare room. After breakfast when Bertha came to me she told me that Roberts the butler was not well was sick headache &c. Nurse went down to take his temperature & came back in alarm to say it was up to 104-6– When Mr Herring came we asked him to see him—& he said it was a case for a physician & we should probably have to send him to the hospital. He returned at 4 & not finding him better promised to send a Dr Anderson. He came at 7 & pronounced Roberts to have influenza & said he wd send in a nurse. She came at 11 & took charge of the case. Francie Guest came to see me in the morning & stayed to lunch & drove with Nela– Mrs Browning came to lunch & I got Maria to come & entertain her as I could not see any one. Ruth came to tea & stayed to dinner with Nela. I returned to my bedroom to sleep the night.
