27 May 1894 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Sunday. 27th May [1894]. Nela & I went to Vere St Chapel & heard Mr Page Roberts preach a very fine sermon– There was a great crowd there & we with difficulty got seats in the gallery. Blanche & Edward came to see Henry before lunch & also Richard Du Cane. After church nurse went off to see her sick sister & did not return till 7 P.M. & then told us her sister had died this morning abt 12 & that she had taken her other sister home & put her to bed as she was exhausted with watching. In the afternoon Henry had a great many visitors. Lina Duff Gordon came having arrived from Paris last evening, she stayed a long time & only left after tea. Mr Rate came & also Sir Arthur Otway, Sir Collingwood Dickson, Mr James Lowther, & Mr Benson & then Alick Ross came to tell us he is appointed Governor to the sons of the Grand Duke Wladimir of Russia & is to start tomorrow eveng for St Petersburg. I & Nela at 7 took a walk to 25 Pk Crest together & we brought back Isabel to dine with us that she might play the piano to Henry in the evening. Lady Gregory also came to dinner & Mr Dyer. Roberts had a bad night last night & we are very anxious altho’ the Dr says he is going on well. It was a bitterly cold day NE wind & constant showers–
