28 May 1894 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Monday. 28th May [1894]. Breakfasted in bed & then got up & wrote for Henry. Roberts was pronounced to be out of danger this morning to our great relief. Henry got down to the drawing room at 11.30. Nela & I spent most of the morning arranging the spare room as a studio to paint a still life. Lady Gregory came to lunch & Mr Alfred Burton came to see Henry. Augusta, Nela & I drove at 3 & went to Dorchester House to see Mrs Benson & to witness a dancing class taught by Mrs Wordsworth the fashionable dancing mistress. There were abt 40 children & some of the older girls danced very well—especially one who danced a pas seul a kind of skirt dance, very gracefully. We came home by 5.30. Blanche came to see us & sat some time with Henry. I went round to dine with her, Edward & Mama—& then came home & played patience till Henry went to bed– The wind was round to SW but it was still very cold– Blanche said she had been to see Lady Waterford today who was very bright & spoke of her death with calmness—asking her to try & look after Lord Waterford next winter. She has her piano so arranged that she can putt it over her sofa to play on it. Lord Waterford is to undergo an operation for stone tomorrow– What misfortunes they have each an operation within a month of each other.
