3 June 1894 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Sunday. 3rd June [1894]. Got up to 9 o’cl breakfast. It was a warm muggy day & no sunshine. I did not go to church. Wrote letters & sat with Henry. Blanche & Edward Pon: & Connie came in before luncheon. Nela, Nurse & I sat in the Pavilion on the leads out of the dining room after lunch for our coffee. Sophy Palmer sent to tell me to go & see her so I went to 30 Portland Place at 2.30 & came home at 3.30. Found Sir Fred: Burton with Henry– Afterwards Sir Arthur Otway came & then Lord Aberdare & Pamela. Also Mr Benson & Mr Mitchell Henry & his daughter– Lady Trevelyan & her daughter Hilda came—Lady Lytton also– She sat a long time with Henry & was very nice & kind. Henry also saw Lord Aberdare, Mr Rate & Otway but was too tired to see the others. When they were all gone I went for a walk with Nela we went to the Du Canes & fetched Daisy & Julia to walk. They told me they had this afternoon met Florence Layard she had said her mother was dangerously ill in a private hospital at 25 Devonshire St. I set off at once to find it but as we were not sure of the right No we went to 14 Nottingham Place to enquire. The lady who keeps the boarding house told me that Ida had gone to have some internal operation & wd not be out of danger till tomorrow. We then left a message for Ida & Florence & returned home– Julia went home to “the Park” & we brought Daisy to dine with us. Lady Gregory came to dine & left at 10. Henry was carried up at ¼ to 10.
