22 June 1894 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Friday. 22nd June [1894]. Henry had a fair night sleeping pretty well after 3 o’cl & I only got up twice in the night. The Queen sent to hear the morning report wh Mr Herring gave me. I remained upstairs & had a quiet day. Henry saw Mr Rate in the morng. Lina D. Gordon came to see me & Ethel Cadogan came & he saw her– After lunch Sir Henry Thompson came with Mr Herring & afterwards told me that he thought Henry was going on favorably & was maintaining his strength well—& that he thought we were taking it too seriously. I was astonished—but saw that he was not well—& said I was glad he thought him better– Lady Gregory came & she & I went out driving. I went to the Rates & told them Sir H. T’s improved opinion. I went to see Mama for a few minutes– Came home & had some tea & sat with Henry who was very uncomfortable & had a tempe of 103. Mr Rate & Blanche dined with us. Mr Herring came & we decided at last to let Quain come to give an opinion on Henry’s cough as everyone seemed to wish it I consented.
