25 June 1894 — 1 Queen Anne Street | |
Monday. 25th June [1894]. Henry better this morning tho’ he did not have a very good night. His cough nearly gone & his temperature normal for the first time since his attack. I spent the morning in & out of Henry’s room—he slept a good deal. Maria came & sat with me some time. Mr Rate came also. He made Henry give me £200 for the house accts. Stella came to see Henry. Mr Rate stayed to lunch & Ethel Cadogan & her little dog. At 2 I went out for a drive with Sophy Palmer. We went to write our names at York House to congratulate on the birth of the Prince son of the D. & Dss of York at St James Palace. Then wrote our names at Marlboro’ House & then at Buckingham Palace for the Queen, P. & Pss Christian & the Connaughts. She paid some visits & brought me home by 4. It was very hot out & we were glad to get home. I found Lady Gregory & Sir F. Burton at home. The latter had seen Henry. Lord Aberdare came but could not see Henry who was tired. Maria, Alice Murray &c came to tea but I left them & returned to Henry who was very exhausted & tired. Eda & Nela went to a Richter Concert & Maria came & dined with me. We were just at fish when Nelly Alderson appeared & asked to dine with us & spent the evening with us. Lady Stanhope came to tea time in the morning & ask after Henry & Bss Burdett Coutts left a card with a kind & affecte message for Henry “her dear old friend”– Everybody is so kind & nice about him & he has won such love from so many in his good noble life– | |
