27 June 1894 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Wednesday. 27th June [1894]. Henry had a bad night & in consequence today was also a bad one & he fell very ill at times. I sat with him nearly all day & after lunch I read French to him—an article from the Revue des deux Mondes Maria du Medicis. Blanche came in the morning—Mrs Kay & old Mr Henry Reeve. The latter was not able to go upstairs to see Henry being infirm himself. Lady Gregory came to luncheon—Francie Guest came but did not remain to lunch. Eda lunched out. Mr Rate came at tea time. I went out driving at 6 with Maria & nurse No 1. Mr Rate remained with Henry till we returned. Olwen Ponsonby came to ask to see Henry & went in to him for a few minutes. Sir Henry Thompson came during my absence. Nelly Alderson dined with me & Eda & Nela. Mr Rate returned after dinner to hear how Henry is. He is very fatigued tonight– Sir Henry ordered him a sleeping draught & as I write this there is a great quiet—I hope he is sleeping. His cough has been bad several times today & shook him very much so that for the 1st time he complained of feeling it shook the tender part–
