30 June 1894 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Saturday. 30th June [1894]. Henry had a quiet night without sulphonal & his temperature was normal—but he was very weak today—& dosed a good deal. I read a good deal of the Times to him in the morning– It was an excessively hot day & he felt the heat a good deal. We all lunched at 1 as Eda was going to a theatre. Mrs A. Hanson came in for a moment to ask after Henry. After lunch came Nety Montagu & Olga her girl came but Henry could not see them. He saw Stella Dyer. Nurse’s cousin Nelly Watson came up to see Lady Thompson to have her advice abt studying music so I remained in charge. I read aloud to Henry a good deal & after 5.30 he slept. Mr Dyer came & expressed his regret at what had taken place the other eveng at their house & we made friends again. Maria came at 7 & I took a walk with her to call on Mrs Fred & found she was well & out at a review. Walked on to 25 Pk Ct & left Maria there—went home & took Ruth with me– She & my mother dined with us. Eda left for Peterboro’ by 8.15 train. Mr Rate came after dinner to enquire abt Henry. At 10 the carriage came & I took Mama to her house—then Ruth to hers & after drove round Regent’s Park with Mr Rate & took him to his home & came home to bed at 11. Henry had a sleeping draught & was quietly asleep when I returned.
