4 August 1894 — Devonshire House, Weymouth
Saturday. 4th August [1894]. Called at 7. Breakfast at 8 after which Emilia & I went out for a walk all along the bay to the other end. The tide was quite high up to the Esplanade. We walked to the Greenhill Gardens and sat there talking & then home by 10. It was a grey day & there were a few misty showers. Wrote & arranged papers till lunch at 1 & wrote again after lunch till 4. Had tea at 4.30 & went out for a walk after 5. Wandered abt in the town for an hour. The tide was very low & the place did not look so pretty. Dined at 7.30 & then I read aloud to Emilia some parts of the MSS of Henry’s Early Memoirs which are very pretty & beautifully expressed—& at 10 went to bed. Had letter from Blanche anxious abt Connie whom she thinks unhappy. I wrote to both & sent latter a few trifles–
