5 August 1894 — Devonshire House, Weymouth
Sunday. 5th August [1894]. Emilia & I went to morning service at St Mary’s—a church with an old fashioned service of 1½ hour & not a very good sermon. We lunched at 1– The post brought me a letter from Louis DC enclosing an Italian letter from Astolfi which he begged me to translate– We did this Emilia & I & then I wrote letters & sent off a lot of cards till tea time at 4.30. At 5.30 we took a walk to the gardens & sat there & back to 7.30 dinner. Read to Emilia from Henry’s memoirs. Just a month today that I lost him. How the time creeps! & yet how fast it goes from the happy days.
