6 August 1894 — Devonshire House, Weymouth
Monday. 6th [August 1894]. Bank holiday. Read aloud to Emilia. Wrote many letters—& did not go out till late as there were crowds abt. At last abt 5.30 we went along the esplanade to St Mary’s church—on the Dorchester Road which was quieter. Tho’ there were crowds on the Esplanade they seemed all orderly & good tempered. Lots of people bathed—paddled in the shallow water & fished in boats. The day was cloudy but the rain kept off. Read again to Emilia after dinner.
