4 September 1894 — Devonshire House, Weymouth
Tuesday. 4th September [1894]. I finished today copying Henry’s letters to Aunt Mary. All that Huntly has yet found that is to 1861. I am sorry to have done it as it was like being with him to have his handwriting under my eyes– I felt I could almost see him with his pen in hand– I went out for a walk from 5 to 6. In the evening I read & knitted. This morning it was fine but autumnal—this evening it rained again. In copying Henry’s letters to my aunt Lady Huntly I find he mentions me only once. 130 Piccadilly July 15th 1860. “The little girls (I include Enid altho she scarcely enters into the category) are taking tea with me this afternoon.” I was then just 17 & he cannot have then ever thought that I should be his wife!
