7 September 1894 — Devonshire House, Weymouth
Friday. 7th September [1894]. Finished making Arthur’s pair of stockings & sent them to him. Directly after lunch Nela went with Bertha to Portland by train. I went out for a walk & sat in the gardens—thinking how I must now nerve myself to go to work & resume life—for on Monday I leave here & go back to London to prepare for starting for Venice with Ola—& so I sat there thinking & prayed for strength to be given me to do my duty & to take that journey back alone—& I thought of the agony of the last journey home feeling it was the last we should take together & that Henry was taking leave of his beautiful Italy & looking at everything for the last time. Nela came in abt 5.30—having enjoyed her trip. We sat talking & working till dinner—& played patience in the evening–
