22 September 1894 — Milan
Saturday. 22nd September [1894]. Breakfasted in our rooms at 8. Ola & I walked out to see Mlle Canzi to order a bed to be embroidered for Mr Clark’s house– Went into the Cathedral & then thro’ the Galleria walked back to the Hotel. Lunched at 11.30 & went to the station at 12.30. I had got an order for a compartment to ourselves—which was a great help—as there was no one to see my tears– The day was hot but overcast—the train very crowded—the country looked beautiful. We made our tea in the carriage. At Padua Felicie & I left the train. Ola went on to Venice & I took the train for Stanghella & went to stay at Vescovana with Css Pisani. It was a sad sad meeting. I was 8 o’cl when I arrived. She has her brother Alexander van Millingen staying with her. Don Antonio was also there. They had dined– The Countess sat with me while I dined & we went early to bed.
