13 October 1894 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 13th October [1894]. Sat in Library & read MSS. Wrote to Mr Clark. After lunch went out with Ola in gondola. Mrs Brown came just as I was going out so I received her in the room on the ground floor. It has been a splendid summer day, quite hot in the sun & tonight is full moon & Ola has gone out in the sandolo with Hilda Montalba. Baroness Vietinghoff came to tea looking very ill & with a fearfully consumptive cough. Pss Olga Montenegro came also to see me & sat a long time with me– She dined with us our last night at Venice—the night before we left for London—Henry was very fond of her & she appreciated him—besides having host her mother to whom she was devoted she knows what sorrow is.
