16 October 1894 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 16th [October 1894]. The weather fine & bright again but quite chilly. Ola & I spent the morning gardening sowing seeds potting &c &c. Directly after lunch we went to the Eden’s garden. They were not there. I walked there while Ola went off to the Brazzoduro garden to buy some plants. Back to tea at 5. I had a queer visit from a Mrs Knight saying she was acquainted with our family viz the Granville Layards & her brother knew Henry’s brother Albemarle in Australia. She looked disconcerted when I told her he never had a brother of that name– I told her she might come to see the pictures when she liked & she departed– Ola read aloud in eveng while I played patience.
