7 November 1894 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 7th November [1894]. Edward & Blanche sat in the library with me in the morning & Edward began to help me to look thro’ Henry’s papers. It was a sad & trying morning for me having to handle all my husband’s private papers with another person. Edward is most kind & helpful. After lunch I went out in gondola with Blanche & Edward. We went to the Piazza & I walked there for the first time since my return here without Henry!– This morning I found the letters I had written to Henry when we were engaged– How it took me back to the old times—& how sad it makes me– I walked from the Piazza by the Riva with Blanche & Edward to the public gardens & returned home from there in the gondola. Adl & Mme Noce came to tea—also Ersilia Canevaro & her sister Maria Cozzi. Blanche sang to them but it was too much for me & I had to leave the room. I have had too much to try me today– Edward & Olwen went to hear the opera Carmen with the Tighes– Blanche took a moonlight row with Ola.
