8 November 1894 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 8th November [1894]. Blanche came to my room abt 7.30 & began to read the History of “Madames” by Julia Cartwright. The morning post brought me a letter from Ivor asking me if I will take his daughter Elaine to Egypt this winter– After talking it over I have written to say I will do so—but it upset me & unnerves me thinking of doing anything fresh & I was unable to do anything all the morning. After lunch we all went to the Lido. The Ponsonbys with me in gondola & the 2 girls in sandolo. We landed at Quattro Fontane & walked to S. Elisabetta & the gondola met us & brought us home. We got in just before it began to rain at 5. Mrs Eden & May Parnell called. Blanche & Olwen sang in eveng. I played patience.
