15 November 1894 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 15th [November 1894]. I received an answer from Ivor about going to Egypt with Elaine. He suggests we should go 4 & take a Miss Bernard & asks me to find out how we should go. Edward & I went off at 11 in gondola to the Edens to see Carry & we found her & consulted with her. She advised us to see Mr Rennell Rodd who is under Lord Cramer at Cairo & happens now to be at Venice on his wedding trip. They dined at Mrs Bronson’s tonight & Edward agreed to go there this evening to meet them. We thence went on to the Piazza to Cook’s Agency to enquire my best route. There they recommended me to go to Trieste on Thursday night & take the Austrian Lloyd which goes to Alexandria from there every Friday. I have written this to Ivor & also offered to go alone with Elaine & not to take Ola– Edward & I walked home by the Iron Bridge stopping at an antiquity shop on the way. After lunch Blanche & Olwen went to call on Css Canevaro & Edward picked them up later—he & Blanche remained out till nearly 6 altho’ it got very foggy. Mme Wiel came to tea– Edward, Olwen & Ola went to Mrs Bronsons in evening. Blanche & I stayed at home & I read aloud to her.
