23 November 1894 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 23rd November [1894]. Blanche read to me before breakfast. After Edward & I looked over the Venice Church papers which Henry had left in a box. We made a parcel of them & Edward went off to Mr Horatio Brown’s & left them with him. He then returned & Blanche & I went for a walk with him. We went to the Piazza & ordered berths for Elaine & me by the P&O steamer from Brindisi on 23rd Decr for Egypt. I got letters by this morning’s post from Cornelia & Elaine settling the day & the route. We also stopped at the Edens to ask Carry to take Blanche out in the afternoon & then hurried home for luncheon. Ola & Olwen went out to luncheon with Olga Montenegro. After lunch Blanche went out with Carry & Edward & I rowed in gondola to Lido. It was a lovely day but a little cold. Bright & fresh. We walked from St Elisabetta to the shore as far as 4 Fontane & then to the Favorita & embarked there & went home arriving at ¼ to 5. Ersilia & her Brother G. Cozzi came to tea & then Mrs Curtis came. It was our first meeting since my loss & we were much moved. She was very kind. Trombini came to play for Blanche & he stayed to dine & accompany them to the Sailor’s Institute for a “social evening.” I went off to dine quietly with Css Pisani & came home early.
