25 November 1894 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 25th November [1894]. I went off to church for 10.30 service, the others all went to St Marks to see the Installation of the Patriarch Cardinal Sarto & they went at 11 & only returned at 2. It was rather a wild day & inclined to rain. After church I met Ida Belmondo & with her walked towards the Piazza. She went on there & I went to Css Pisani. She was at her lunch & I sat with her & remained talking till 1.50 when she sent me home in her gondola to lunch. After lunch the others went to afternoon service. I remained at home & made a design for work for Blanche. It came on to blow hard & as Ola came home abt 5 in Css Pisani’s gondola it was nearly upset opposite Pal. Toscari. No one called & so Edward read aloud to B & me & we finished the Life of “Madames” by Mrs Ady. It was a very rough evening & cold & there was some sleet. The accounts we received of Mama’s health were so bad today that I have made up my mind to be ready to start for England at the end of the week.
