11 December 1894 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 11th [December 1894]. Ola & I pasted in cuttings till 12 when she had her music lesson. I went on till lunch. It was a bright cold day. Directly after lunch we went in gondola to the Eden’s garden & got a few flowers—roses & chrysanthemums & came back early. Ola walked from the Zattere. Edith Bronson came to tea also Mr Carey & later the pair Belmondo. Worked at another lamp shade in the evening. There is some excitement here over Zola’s visit here. He is the son of a Venetian & only left here when he was 7—but he denies his country & says he is a Frenchman– Some have made a fuss with him & a banquet has been given in his honor—others will have nothing to say to him.
