21 December 1894 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 21st [December 1894]. Another fine day. Did accounts & drew money &c for the journey. After lunch I went in gondola with Elaine to the Piazza & bought blue spectacles &c & then by the Riva walked to the gardens & came back in gondola. I left Elaine at the Montalbas to meet Ola & then came home to tea. Css Brandolin & her girl came to tea– Castellani called to say he would undertake to arrange between Biraghi & Mr Clark—so I need not have any more to do with him– He has shown great ingratitude to Henry & incivility to me. Ersilia Canevaro came to take leave of me– Then Iduna Belmondo & then Pss Olga of Montenegro just before dinner. I heard this morng from Cornelia very bad news of my mother who is evidently dying slowly.
