23 December 1894 — En route to Cairo
Sunday. 23rd [December 1894]. When the train stopped at Foggia Henry Guest joined us from Rome & we got breakfast again out of the tea basket. We arrived at Brindisi 4 hours late & went at once on board the P&O “Caledonia” a splendid ship lying close to the key. We got lunch on board & took possession of our cabins. Elaine & I had a large one together with every comfort. We went on shore to take a walk & Elaine bought a hat. They dined at 7.30 & I went to bed instead & abt midnight the ship started. We rolled a good deal during the night.
