24 December 1894 — En route to Cairo
Monday. 24th December [1894]. The rolling was much less all day & I got up for lunch & afterwards went on deck. Found Lady Victoria Lambton on board with her daughter & nephew & agreed to sit at their table at meals. There was also a Mr Lyon with them. Lady Victoria & I had known each other as girls. She is taking her daughter to Cairo for her health. After lunch we sat on deck together until some of the passengers began to get up “sports,” racing, jumping matches &c & it was more than I cd stand so I went below & remained in my cabin & did not appear again. Elaine managed to go to her meals.
