25 December 1894 — En route to Cairo
Tuesday. 25th [December 1894]. Christmas Day. It was pretty smooth so we got up & I & Henry Guest went down to service in the saloon. It got rather rough again & I had to retire to my cabin where I was happily quiet. The ship was decorated & there were more sports & we heard there were toasts & speeches at dinner & plumpuddings &c &c and a fancy dress ball—all of which Elaine & I escaped by dining in our cabin as it got rather rough again.
