1 January 1895 — Cairo | |
Tuesday. [1st January] 1895. New Year’s Day. Ghesireh Palace Hotel. Breakfast in our rooms. Up at 9. Read aloud to Elaine from Gibbon. She & her brother went to Cairo in the morning to lunch with the Lambtons &c & to see the Bazaars. I remained here & lunched by myself downstairs & afterwards I sat in the garden & read till after 4 when I came in & read & made tea. Elaine & H.G. came in about 6 having had a very pleasant day. We dined together in the Restaurant at 8 & sat in the hall a little while where the band was playing & then returned to our sitting room & read & went to bed at 11. | |
