2 January 1895 — Cairo
Wednesday. 2nd January [1895]. Got a post this morning with letters of 26th from Blanche giving a bad acct of our mother. Also one very bad one of Lord Randolph Churchill. H.G. went off to Cairo before lunch. Elaine & I cut out a shirt for her to make. After lunch she & I took a drive. Went to a book shop to get the “Roman de la Momie” & then to Pss Nazli Khanum. She was at home but after waiting to see her we were told she had a headache so we left. We took a little drive and came in for tea & sewed till dinner at 8 & again till bed time.
