5 January 1895 — Cairo | |
Saturday. 5th January [1895]. Elaine was well & about again but got up late. H.G. & I went across to Cairo to Cook’s Office to make further enquiries about going up the Nile & settled to go on 10th next Thursday. We walked about in the town & then took a carriage back to the hotel. Had lunch. I did not go out again but Elaine went out with her brother & returned abt 6. I sewed & read & had my tea before they came in. They went to dine with Lord & Lady Cromer. I dined alone downstairs & then came up & played patience till bed time. | |
