7 January 1895 — Cairo
Monday. 7th January [1895]. Elaine & her brother Henry went off at 9 to join a water party given by Lady V. Lambton & Lady Alfred Churchill to see the Pyramids of Sakkarah & they did not return till 7. I washed my hair & dressed late & after lunch went out & sketched in the garden– I had a visit from a lady whose name I have not yet found out but knew at Constantinople as Blanche Belinsky, niece of Sir Alfred Sandison– She is married she said to an Egyptian official. Elaine & H.G. returned very tired & the latter had some fever. He had ridden on a donkey some 14 miles wh had not done his sprained leg much good. I took him some hot lemonade when he was in bed. Got a post from England.
