8 January 1895 — Cairo | |
Tuesday. 8th January [1895]. H.G. did not get up till late & was so unwell that we persuaded him after lunch to go to the town to see a Dr. He went to Dr Murison who alarmed him so much that he went after to Dr Sandwith & I waited in the landau for him. Elaine remained at the Hotel d’Angleterre with the Lambtons. We fetched her at 4.30 & drove to leave cards on the Cromers & then returned to the hotel. H.G. by orders of Dr Sandwith got on the sofa & dined upstairs. Elaine & I dined downstairs & came up directly after to sit with H.G. & to avoid a performance of the Christy Minstrels in the hall. | |
