12 January 1895 — Cairo | |
Saturday. 12th January [1895]. Today H.G. was better & had no fever or hardly any. Elaine & I went out to Cairo to join the Lambtons & Miss Daisy Spencer Churchill at the Hotel d’Angleterre & thence we went all mounted on Donkeys to the Bazaars where we spent the morng the girls making small purchases. We drank Persian tea at the stall of Mr Cohen the Jew—& very good it was. Elaine & I rode back to the landing place for Ghesireh at Boulac & went across the Nile back to lunch. We found H.G. had been out for a drive in our absence. At 3 Elaine & I went in to town in a carriage & she left me at Princess Nazli’s. I found her at home & spent a long time chatting with her. Elaine went straight back to the hotel to entertain the Psses Duleep Sing at tea. The Dr came to see H.G. & pronounced his fever better but his leg not much better. | |
