13 January 1895 — Cairo
Sunday. 13th [January 1895]. H.G. continues better. I went off to church across the Nile & met Lady V. Lambton & walked back to the Hotel d’Angleterre to see about the cost of rooms there in case we like to go there on our return from Luxor—& then back to Ghesireh for lunch. Did accounts paid the bill & packed. H.G. left & went to Hotel d’Angleterre with Roberts. Elaine & I dined at 7.45, & at 8.45 left Ghesireh Palace Hotel & went to the station & left Cairo by 9.20 train for Assiout. Had very comfortable sleeping berths & Lady Victoria & Miss Lambton went in the same carriage. Splendid moonlit night. Got a letter from Blanche just on starting with a bad acct of our mother.
