2 February 1895 — Luxor | |
Saturday. 2nd February [1895]. We went to Karnak abt 10.30—& set to work to sketch there. Lunched at 1—& then painted again till 3 when we walked to the Temple of Mut & found Mr Benson & Miss Gent superintending some excavation. They were finding quantities of basalt figures of Cats or Pasht. We got back to the hotel at 5 & had tea. Read aloud before & after dinner from the “Roman de la Momie.” We got on very well with our expedition & kept Mohammed Achmed at a proper distance—but it cost us dear as he made us pay him 4/ as he called himself a dragoman & altogether the trip cost us 14/!! | |
