8 March 1895 — Cairo | |
Friday. 8th March [1895]. I took a donkey & a small boy to drive it—& with Roberts on foot went off to the Palm Grove & sketched them all the morning. Did a sketch of the Pyramids in the distance in oils. Came back for luncheon. Sat on the house top talking to Mrs Hitchin at sunset. After dinner all our party went off to see the Sphinx by moonlight. I walked with Lady Victoria & the Col. The rest went on camels. It was rather a cloudy night which added a kind of mystery to the view the moon only coming out brightly from time to time. Miss Arbuthnot came up later in the sandcart & she & I walked back together to the hotel. | |
