10 March 1895 — Cairo | |
Sunday. 10th March [1895]. Went to morning service at 11. Sat in my room & painted & read almost all day. Went to eveng service at 6. After dinner I accompanied Lady Ashburton to see the Sphinx by moonlight. A glorious night. She drove in a sandcart I walked. The sky was deep blue & one could see the red colour of the Pyramids & the yellow of the desert sand. Lady A. was most enthusiastic. Elaine went up to the top of the Pyramid before dinner & was too tired to move again. Mr Mossop & Aline Lambton finally made up their little affair & are engaged only it is not yet announced. | |
