16 March 1895 — Cairo | |
Saturday. 16th March [1895]. Elaine & I went in by appointment at 11 to Cairo to meet Mr Mossop who wished to show us a dog cart that I am thinking of making a present of to Elaine. After lunch I drove with him to the citadel to see the mosque which is very fine & made a great impression on me. Its proportions are admirable. Also went in to the Sultan Hassan mosque which is greatly out of repair. Elaine rode with Messrs Lambton & de Barreto. We went to tea at the Hotel Continental & I also paid a visit to Lady Wilfreda Biddulph & then Mr Mossop & I walked back to the Ghesireh. It was dark before we got in. Walked in the garden after dinner—& Elaine had a talk with him abt the position of affairs between him & Aline—which seem to be at a standstill. | |
