23 March 1895 — Cairo | |
Saturday. 23rd March [1895]. The girls enjoyed seeing the mosque last night & came home abt 10. I read Heroditus aloud to Elaine in the morning. Painted in the garden in afternoon– After dinner Mr & Miss Cartwright sat with me. They had been dining here with a Mr Friedmann whom they introduced to me. He is a german who had done many curious things amongst them he tried to settle a colony of Jews in Midian. A violent wind with dust all day. | |
