1 June 1895 — Bessborough, Fiddown, County Kilkenny
Saturday. 1st June [1895]. I remained in bed till lunch. Edward was very busy looking into the estate which his father has given over to him. Blanche & I went round the house in the morning. After lunch we went for a drive in a victoria & called on Mrs Villiers Stuart whose husband has been agent to the property here. He has a lovely old house in the same style as Bessborough but with many more pretty things inside it. Mrs Stewart seemed very nice & has been a pretty woman. We dined at 8 & went early to bed. At Bessborough the time kept is the English time which is half an hour earlier than the mean Irish time. An old tradition in the family.
