13 June 1895 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Thursday. 13th [June 1895]. Edward D came to see me in the morning & also Mr Rate. The latter brought me the proposed inscription on Henry’s monument which I kept to think over. Lady V. Lambton called to tell me Mr Mossop’s engagement to Aline is announced. Mr Rate stayed to lunch with me. I went out at ¼ 3 & drove up to Park Crescent to fetch Maria to drive with me. Called on Mr Clark & consulted him about the inscription & said I would return to hear his decision on Monday. We went on to Onslow Gardens & picked up Evely Eliot & took her out for a drive as she has only just recovered from the measles. Called on Adeline Dss of Bedford in her new house 26 Hartford Street– It is beautifully done up all painted white inside & out. She encourages me to go to Savile Row to live. Came in to tea at home with Evely. Maria went to tea with her friends. Sent Evely home in the carriage. I went out for a walk & met Maria in Cav. Sqr & walked with her to her house. Ola walked back with me. Went to leave a message with Onie Ponsonby & then came home & dressed for dinner. Sir Fred Burton came to dine alone with me & we had a pleasant chat. He seemed well & did not look as aged as he used—but he had pain in his foot & had to keep it put up.
