20 June 1895 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Thursday. 20th June [1895]. Eda & I had another turn at my accounts for I was puzzled to how I had spent so much money. Suddenly we discovered that the Banker’s book was added up wrong & a “tick” before a figure was taken for a 1 & added up made the acct wrong of £1000. Mr Rate happened to come in at the time & we referred it to him. He said we were right & he carried off the book to Messrs Glyn Currie Mills & Co. Lady Gregory & Lady Wilfreda Biddulph came to luncheon & Augusta Gregory drove with Eda & me. I went to see Adeline Bedford about going to Chenies to stay with her—but found she is in town—but was not at home—so I left a message. The Hallam Murrays came to stay with me having let Newstead their house near Wimbledon & not having yet found another house. Eda dined out & the Murrays & I dined together. I am getting very wearied & knocked up & am panting to leave London. Eda came home abt 11 & we sat up talking & she taught me how to cook Benger’s food.
