8 August 1895 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Thursday. 8th [August 1895]. I went out at 8.30 round the garden & to try to get into the churchyard but the gate was locked. Lovely morning. Breakfast 9.30. At 10.30 started with Elaine in the carriage for Colehill where a Swedish painter Miss Nordgren was staying at a labourers cottage & she joined us & we went in search of a sketch. She & Elaine sketched & I looked on. Later we were joined by Rosie & Nelly Alderson who had driven over from Bere. We returned to lunch at Canford by 2.15. The rest of the party went to Wimborne to see an exhibition of Miss Mea Bernard’s drawings. I remained at home to colour some more designs & sent them off by the evening’s post. It had come on to rain by the evening. At 7 I ran out & picked a few flowers for Henry & put them on his monument & then returned home. It was raining fast. Sat in Elaine’s room– Played Besique with Rosie & Elaine read us Punch Ballads–
