13 September 1895 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Friday. 13th September [1895]. Elaine arrived with her maid just after luncheon. She is on her way from Canford to stay with the De Ramsays. She went off to her dentist & only returned to 5 o’cl T. In the meanwhile I had an unexpected visit from dear old Sir Frederick Burton. We made an agreement to go together to the National Gallery when I am settled at Savile Row. After tea Elaine & I walked off to the Baker St Bazaar to look for a pony cart for her to drive at Canford. I had promised her one. After much discussion we settled on one for 25 guineas. I am to contribute 20 of it. Her brother Freddy came & dined with us. I had not seen him before. I liked him but not so much as the others.
