26 September 1895 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Thursday. 26th September [1895]. Lady Gregory & I worked at arranging & sorting books. A very hot day & oppressive. Mrs Ball came to lunch with us—also Sir Domenic Colnaghi & my sister Constance. This is the last time I shall entertain any friends at the old home. As the time nears to leave I feel it more & more keenly but I know it is right to go. Mrs Ball stayed till 4 oclock—& then I went out to walk. I called at the Thompsons & found them at home. Sir Henry very ailing. Lady Thompson such an invalid that she can no longer feed herself. The Daughter Mrs Walkin in bed having been confined of a girl on Tuesday. I walked on to Park Crescent to ask Richard Du Cane to dine with me. He had gone to Bournemouth. I dined alone as Lady Gregory returned to Queen Anne’s Mansions for the night. Sat in my bedroom, the only room I can bear in the house.
